In 2023, Chinese trucks achieved a remarkable milestone by setting a new export record over the past decade. A total of 674,064 trucks were exported, marking the second time in the last ten years that exports have surpassed 500,000 units. This impressive figure represents an 18.9% year-on-year increase, ranking as the fourth-largest growth rate in the past decade. These results highlight 2023 as the best year for China’s truck export market in recent history.

In the past decade of the truck export market, China reached a new high in 2023 by exporting 674,064 trucks, marking the second time in the last ten years that exports exceeded 500,000 units. This represents an 18.9% year-on-year increase, making it the fourth-largest growth rate in the past decade. These figures indicate that 2023 was the best year for China’s truck export market in recent history. According to research and analysis, several key factors contributed to this success:

Firstly, the demand for trucks in China’s primary export destinations, which include countries in Latin America and parts of Asia, has been gradually recovering. Previously suppressed essential needs have been further released, driving up demand for Chinese trucks.

Secondly, significant changes have occurred in the investment models of some Chinese truck companies in 2023. The industry has evolved from traditional trade and partial Knocked Down (KD) assembly models to direct investment models. Major truck manufacturers such as Foton, Sinotruk, and FAW have begun large-scale production in their overseas factories, which has progressively increased their production and sales volumes. This shift supports the international sales of truck brands and lays a solid foundation for future growth.

Thirdly, since the beginning of 2023, countries like Russia, Mexico, and Algeria have significantly increased their imports of Chinese trucks, with high year-on-year growth rates. These countries have become key drivers of the growth in China’s truck export market in 2023.

Overall, the combination of recovering demand in key markets, strategic investment shifts by major manufacturers, and substantial imports by pivotal countries has made 2023 a record-breaking year for China’s truck exports.
